Weyside Urban Village Cycling proposals

Weyside Urban Village Development (formerly known as Slyfield Area Regeneration Project, SARP): Representatives of G-BUG met recently with Markides Associates, who are providing advice to GBC on the Masterplan for the development, including sustainable transport. Although house building is some way off (2023-2033), work on infrastructure could start much sooner using funding from the Housing Infrastructure Fund. The proposals for cycling infrastructure within and outside the development look positive at this early stage, with scope to improve the cycling infrastructure in the adjacent area. Further details will be found in the Markides presentation and the minutes of the meeting.

What an absolute farce that, amidst the nonsense greenwashing of the highly expensive consultant’s imaginative graphics depicting cyclists and wheelchair user’s merrily gliding around this site without a care amidst nonsense text about sustainable green transport etc etc , the Bike Project, which for 7 years has been providing affordable bikes and servicing for local residents whilst training children and learning disabled adults as well as local volunteers is to be closed down whilst the bulldozers smash their workshop down and the site is flogged off for development. All without so much as a single word of consultation.
