GBUG has proposed to Guildford Borough Council that they take advantage of plans to redevelop North Street and other shopping streets to convert the town centre into a “Mini Holland”. That is, make Guildford town centre a place that prioritises cyclists and pedestrians over cars. The Transport Strategy report for the Town Centre Masterplan recommends the pedestrianisation of North Street from 10am to 11pm with cyclists able to access North Street during the pedestrianised times. The report also highlights a need for two-way cycle use along North street. (March 2023: GBC has embarked on a consultation of Town Centre improvements, in which GBUG has taken part.)
