    This is a useful document which certainly takes the debate forward. However the key will be to take it beyond aspirational maps and into clearly prioritised plans which can then be budgeted and hopefully funded through the planning system as all the new development comes on stream. A few thoughts though:
    1. It does not appear to take account of the new development in the local plan, although this is an obvious opportunity to drive development to be more cycle friendly from the start
    2. I don’t understand why the main university campus and the town centre are not green.
    3. The key to modal shift will be creating safe routes to key destinations in the town. Most obvious are schools, railway stations, shops and offices. Of these I’m not convinced that much thought has been given to schools, but it is only when parents feel happy to send their kids to school by bike that we will truly be able to say that we have achieved modal shift
